Adding user icons

Postby Kjetil » Sun Jan 25, 2009 3:31 am

I'm afraid I can't figure out how to add a custom gobo icon to a personality palette. The manual says "In file manager click on the .jpg or .bmp files you wish to make into icons" but I can't see a single .jpg file with the file manager (found in the Setup window)? I originally placed them in a separate folder under the icons folder but ended up dumping them in the icon folder itself, and still can't see them.

Edit: This is MagicQ pc 1.3.6.0.

Best thing is:
- make a folder in the /show/icons map
- put in this folder all your custom created .jpg icons
- goto file manager and go into this folder
- click on the name of your own created icon and MagicQ will ask you that he may load this as an icon
- Magicq will now convert it to his own format and will put it at the end of the list in the folder /show/icons
- now it is ready to use

Ah, no idea why I couldn't see them the first time, but it worked now, thank you. :)

Think on it, that these user icons will only be available on your system. They are not transfered with the show file !

If you want them to be added in the icon library, please send them then to ChamSys UK.

What size should images be?
I had some breakups (Martin standards, so I didn't make them) where the icons look like I sneezed in a bowl of dust and some position icons I made myself where I can barely see the x and parts of the icon is outside the frame...

Doesn't go really smooth,
I followed the instructions, but sometimes they just don't get converted, others only appear after restarting, etc.

I use PNG-files in a 32/32 resolution.

I think it would be a good idea tot develop a standalone fixture-file maker where you can drag and drop icons without all the conversion hassle or switchin from one page to another just to add an icon.

BTW, when editing a fixture file with selfmade icons for beam pallets.
When I save this fixture-file to an USB stick, are the icons included?

Icons ore notr included in the head or also not in the showfile. You have to copy them manually!
I think it is recommended to use jpeg or bitmap.

Is this still true 6 years later in 2021 for the current version (1.8.9.0) or is it saved in the .xhw file, so you can transport it from 1 desk to another?
