Art-Net & universes

Postby PolDavril » Fri Nov 16, 2018 6:45 pm

Just to be sure.
MagicQ can output 64 universes on Art-Net. In that case, I suppose the computer does the job via its own network connector ?
But I guess a PC wing must be connected for the Art-Net output is enabled on the computer ?
An Art-Net - DMX converter is thus needed to feed the universes lines ?
Can you confirm ?

ArtNet is outputting data via network. On a PC is this via the network card of the computer.
If you have a fixture that can receive ArtNet, you can control it via the network.
If you need DMX outputs, then you need an interface that converts ArtNet to DMX. This is called a Node.
ChamSys has 2 types: SnakeSys B4 (4 ports) and SnakeSys S6 (2 port, but with built in DMX splitter and Ethernet switch). Another famous brand is ELC Lighting, they have 2, 3, and 8 port nodes.
